The Rehabilitation Programme at PSI Global was created with the aim of lowering the number of re-offenders by increasing employment opportunities within the construction industry.
Focusing on the communities we work in has always been a priority for us at PSI Global, and we know it’s a priority for our clients as well. While researching new ways in which we could help these communities, our team found that there are a number of prisons across the UK that are looking to help prisoners find employment once they reach the end of their sentence.
These prisons are regularly looking for employers to help, and we knew that creating Prison Rehabilitation Services at PSI Global would be an important way to close the skills gap and get more people back into work in our industries and communities.
In 2020, our team began visiting various prisons across the UK to attend employment days. This gave us the opportunity to listen and learn, finding out more about what we as a company could do to help. We found that, regardless of sentence length, those who had employment following their release were less likely to re-offend than those who didn’t have employment lined up.
We also realised what an important opportunity and responsibility this was for PSI Global to work with ex-offenders, helping to get them back into work.
Through our Social Values team, we have worked to build a rehabilitation programme that has included regular visits to sites such as HMP Kirkham and HMP Lancaster Farms.
